About the Event
This workshop provides an introduction to the Decolonizing Therapy™ framework and is a prerequisite to advanced courses within the Decolonizing Therapy series. People of color, queer and gender expansive folx have been decentered in health and healing spaces because many providers and program staff lack culture specific education and training. To be effective at supporting and treating historically marginalized folks, healthcare providers and administrative staff must be able to recognize and navigate the impact of racialized trauma, institutional racism, and systemic oppression on people of color, queer and gender expansive folx.
Learning Objectives
Attendees will explore the origins of helping professions through an intersectional lens of to uncover the limitations to providing culturally centered care.
- Attendees will receive an overview of the Healing Justice Movement as a framework for centering culture to achieve wellness
- Attendees will receive interventions and strategies to decolonize their practice with marginalized communities
